Check-Up & Clean in Newton
At Gentle Dentistry in Newton, we promote routine dental checkup and cleaning to our valued patients at least every six months. It’s one of the crucial procedures that we do to help secure their optimal oral health.
During a regular checkup and cleaning, two procedures are done.
Dental checkup or examination
The first step of the oral examination is to take an X-ray image of the mouth. This way, our dental hygienist evaluates your oral health. She checks for plaque and tartar deposits on your teeth. Next, she also checks your gum health by measuring the spaces of the teeth from your gums. If you have shallow spaces, it means you have healthy gums. Meanwhile, deeper spaces indicate you have gum disease which will determine the type of cleaning to be performed.
Furthermore, the hygienist shows you the X-ray results and lets you know if there are specific areas of concern such as cavities or damaged restoration. She also checks your tongue, throat, neck, face, and head for any sign of swelling or oral cancer.
Cleaning or oral prophylaxis
The second part of the procedure is for our dental hygienist to remove plaque and tartar deposits using special dental tools. Also, she uses a gritty toothpaste to polish your teeth and remove remaining stains. Then, our hygienist flosses teeth for a squeaky clean feeling. Finally, the dental hygienist applies fluoride treatment to the teeth to strengthen them. For children, we also recommend dental sealants to add a layer of protection for their teeth.
After we successfully clean your teeth, we also provide you some tips on how to improve your oral care regimen. Take time to schedule your next dental checkup and cleaning at Gentle dentistry in Newton.
